Mound Bayou, Miss., September 20, 2025— Today, Mound Bayou’s First   Baptist Church’s Missionary Society president, Janice Miller, announced that the group will sponsor the 11th Annual Ladies’ Night Out for October 24, at 6:00 pm, at the First Baptist Church in Mound Bayou.  The event is held in recognition and awareness of breast cancer, sudden unexpected infants’ death syndrome (SUIDS) and domestic violence,  all events that are recognized in the month of October.  The presenters will be Dr. Mary Williams, CEO and founder of the Urgent and Primary Care Clinic in Clarksdale and Yolanda Turner Evans, author of Who Do You Tell?, a book that chronicles Evans’ life as a domestic violence survivor and as an advocate for domestic violence.

According to the Ladies’ Night Out founder, DeVoyce C. Morris, the first event was held in 2013 with about 60 participants.  “Since that time, we’ve been blessed to have served thousands of attendees,”  said Morris.  “It is our ultimate goal to reach as many ladies as possible to communicate these important messages that are so vital in the lives of women,” stated Morris.  “Throughout the years, we’ve had attendance from out of state, as well as from as far away as Marks, Yazoo City and Jackson, Miss.,” she stated.  “We are so grateful to the many individuals who have come forward and assisted financially with this event,” stated Morris.  “We have businesses and individuals who have furnished door prizes or made financial contributions, and for which we are eternally grateful,” she said.

“In addition to the presenters, we will have musical entertainment, great homecooked food from some of the Delta’s prize-winning cooks, door prizes and games,” continued Morris.  “We feel that our work has not been in vain when we consider the number of ladies who have shared in these awareness events,” said Morris.  “On several occasions, we have had male guests, also,” continued Morris.  “Some of our attendees come directly from work and we feel that we should offer them a complete meal,” Morris continued.

According to Janice Miller, First Baptist Church member, Kim Johnson, who is also an artistic and talented decorator, transforms the fellowship hall into a warm, inviting setting.  A conducive environment is important, especially for those who are suffering from losses.  Johnson also makes a gigantic basket of goodies to donate to the Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation.

“There is no cost associated with Ladies’ Night Out,” said Miller.  “We are more interested in the participants receiving the breast cancer, SUIDS and domestic violence awareness message,” she said. Ladies who plan to attend are asked to please call Miller at 252-955-7387 or DeVoyce C. Morris at 662-719-0090.
