A total of $8,000 was raised from the community buying hamburger plates to benefit Clarksdale Ward 2 Commissioner Ken Murphey and his family. Murphey is going through some medical issues, and the money raised will go towards paying some of the bills his family incurs.
Plates for the fundraiser included a hamburger and chips, which were sold at $10 apiece. A total of 800 tickets were sold, which means $8,000 was raised.
The Clarksdale Fire Department sponsored the event, and plates were picked up at a drive-through at the Civic Auditorium on Monday night. Fire Department Training Chief Hunter Rybolt helped organize the event. He said it was “fantastic” and “exceeded expectations,” noting that the goal was to sell 500 tickets.
“The community comes together all the time to make things like this happen,” Rybolt said. “I’m grateful for a good community.”
