AKA/Chi Mu Omega Chapter installs new officers

Mound Bayou, MS 38762, January 4, 2024Chi Mu Omega Chapter’s President, Annie Y. Griffin, announced today that the chapter’s new year officially began on January 1, and on Saturday, January 6, a new slate of officers began their two-year terms of service.  Barbara Lucas, a member and former president of  Iota Delta Omega Chapter in Clarksdale, conducted the chapter’s installation ritual at the December 2, 2023, meeting.

The new officers are:  President, Annie Y. Griffin, who is serving a second term; Vice-President, Evelyn Henry; Recording Secretary, Zakiyo Jackson; Assistant Secretary, Vivian Williams; Treasurer, Dr. Glendscene Williams; Assistant Treasurer, Linda Anderson; Financial Secretary, Valerie Sanders; Assistant Financial Secretary, Yolanda Murry; Corresponding Secretary, Trena Robinson; Publicist, DeVoyce C. Morris; Official Hostess, Geraldine C. Grammer; Sergeant-at-Arms, Dr. Chrystal Early; Parliamentarian, Dr. Shawneequa Beal; Historian, Louise Hemingway; Chaplain, Ardeltru P. Dixon and Business Manager, Bria Moore.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ® (AKA), an international service organization, was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college-educated women.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated® is comprised of more than 355,000 initiated members in graduate and undergraduate chapters located in 12 countries including the United States, Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Dubai, Germany, Japan, Liberia, Nigeria, South Korea, South Africa and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Led by International President and CEO, Danette Anthony Reed of Dallas, Texas, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, often is hailed as “America’s premier Greek-letter organization for African American women.”

Chi Mu Omega Chapter was chartered on December 6, 2003, at the Lampton Street Church of Christ in Mound Bayou with 16 members.  Marilee Lucas served as the chapter’s first president and DeVoyce C. Morris as the first vice-president.  Now, more than 20 years later, the chapter has held five initiations and has a present membership of 90 members.  Eight charter members have held continuous membership with the chapter; and, the chapter members mourn the loss of charter members Dorothy Smith Bass, Nancy M. Bonney and Erma Inge.
