AEH Partners with Local Organizations to Get Citizens Registered

By: Aaron E. Henry Community Health Services Center, Inc. | Sept 20, 2024

Clarksdale, Mississippi – It’s that time again and local community groups and organizations are taking action.  National Voter Registration Day was Tuesday, September 17.  This is a nonpartisan civic holiday dedicated to celebrating our democracy.  Since its kickoff in 2012, the holiday and its team of thousands of partners have worked to get over 5 million Americans registered to vote.  Now, as we face another Presidential election and other state elections, it is vital that everyone eligible be registered to vote and exercise their right to do so.  National Voter Registration Day involves dedicated partners of every stripe all over the country hitting the streets for a single day of coordinated field, digital, and media action focused squarely on growing our shared democracy. It is endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State, among others.

Aaron E. Henry Community Health Center, Inc. has always advocated for voting rights and civic engagement.  It is also a dedicated registration location for anyone seeking to register to vote.  AEH decided to once again partner with local Greek organizations to attempt to register voters in areas where voter turnout is customarily low.  Working with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity; Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority; and the Clarksdale High School Beta Club, the group set up registration points at various housing complexes in the city of Clarksdale and the Clarksdale Civic Auditorium to attract unregistered voters.  The groups also offered valuable information about voting rules and requirements to ensure there is no problem at the precincts on election day.   Anyone who will be 18 years of age on election day is eligible to register to vote this year.

If anyone needs to register to vote, he/she should visit the Circuit Clerk’s office in the Courthouse, any AEH location, or go to www.vote.com to register.  Deadline for registration is October 7.
