Clarksdale, Mississippi – Established in 2023, the Coahoma County School District’s First Tech Robotics Team has quickly made its mark on the technology scene, earning recognition and sparking inspiration among local students. Led by instructor Sarah Trimm, the team aims to develop students’ skills in robotics, engineering, and teamwork, providing them with hands-on experience in the growing field of technology.

In its inaugural year, the team attended the Mississippi First Tech Challenge (FTC) Kickoff event in Tupelo, MS, where they made a significant impression by winning the prestigious Motivate Award. This honor is given to teams that inspire others through outreach, creative marketing, and a passion for spreading STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) awareness.

Recently, the team had the privilege of receiving a visit from Shander Gund, representing Congressman Bennie Thompson’s office. This visit highlighted the growing recognition of the team’s efforts and the importance of investing in the next generation of innovators.

Building on the success of their first year, the team has already set their sights on the 2024-25 competition season. Last week, they took apart last year’s robot, Mark 42, and began constructing the new REV DUO FTC Starter Bot. This task challenges students to use their creativity and technical know-how to design a robot capable of performing various tasks during the competition season.

The team is supported by local sponsors, including SAF Cart and First National Bank, who have generously contributed to their success. These sponsors play a crucial role in providing the team with the resources necessary to compete and develop their skills.

As the Coahoma County School District’s First Tech Robotics Team continues to grow, they are set to inspire more students to pursue careers in STEM fields, helping shape the future of innovation in the Mississippi Delta.
