Coahoma Community College has successfully transformed its campus game room and library, thanks to support from Home Depot’s Retool Your School campaign and the dedication of students, faculty, staff, and community members. The initiative has revitalized key areas of the campus, creating vibrant spaces designed to foster student engagement, relaxation, and collaboration.

The upgraded game room, featuring a pool table, air hockey, and arcade-style games, is set to become a central hub for student socialization. While temporarily closed due to ongoing renovations, the space is expected to reopen in time for Homecoming, offering students a refreshed environment to enjoy during the celebrations. The updates reflect a broader commitment to enhancing the student experience by providing both leisure and community-building opportunities.

Along with the game room, the library has also undergone significant improvements aimed at creating a more dynamic and collaborative learning space. These enhancements are designed to support academic success by offering students a comfortable, engaging environment for study and group work.

The success of these upgrades was driven by the hands-on efforts of Coahoma’s student volunteers, whose commitment was crucial in bringing the project to life. Their involvement, along with the college’s faculty and staff, highlights the strong sense of community and collective pride that defines Coahoma’s campus culture.

Karen Woods-Done, Director of Student Engagement, praised the collaborative effort. “This project has been a true community effort, and we’re thrilled for students to experience the new game room during Homecoming,” she said. “It’s a space that will not only be fun but also strengthen the bonds between students.”

Dr. Valmadge Towner, President of Coahoma Community College, also expressed his enthusiasm for the transformation. “These upgrades to our game room and library are part of our ongoing effort to create a campus environment that supports both academic excellence and student well-being,” said Dr. Towner. “We are deeply grateful to Home Depot’s Retool Your School campaign for their support and to our students for their active participation. Together, we are building spaces that will inspire learning, engagement, and a sense of community for years to come.”

The Retool Your School campaign, funded by Home Depot, provides Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with the resources needed to complete campus improvement projects. Coahoma Community College is proud to be among this year’s grant recipients and looks forward to unveiling these enhanced spaces, which promise to enrich both the social and academic lives of its students.

These transformations signal Coahoma’s continued investment in student life, providing a more holistic and enriching campus experience that goes beyond the classroom.
