FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jackson, MS (November 12, 2024) – The Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health seeks Mississippians to share their personal experiences with lung health challenges.  Through the Breath by Breath: Real Stories on Lung Health initiative, the Institute will gather stories from those affected by lung conditions, such as lung cancer, asthma, COPD, bronchitis, sarcoidosis, and/or COVID-19.

Participants will share their challenges, and the barriers faced due to healthcare coverage or limited access to Medicaid.  The Institute seeks storytellers who are:

  • Individuals living with lung health conditions,
  • Caregivers/family members supporting loved ones with lung health conditions, or
  • Individuals with a connection to lung health and healthcare coverage issue

By amplifying these voices, the Institute aims to shed light on how healthcare access and policy changes affect lung health across Mississippi. These stories will help illustrate the need for accessible healthcare and the potential positive impact of Medicaid expansion on reducing health disparities statewide.

The deadline to participate is December 9, 2024.  Eligible participants who share their stories will receive a $800 honorarium for their time and contribution.  For more information or to participate, contact Shelethia Whisenton at swhisenton@advancingminorityhealth.org or visit www.minority-institute.org.
