Clarksdale, Mississippi—The holiday spirit was alive and thriving yesterday at the annual Christmas at City Hall celebration, which brought the Clarksdale community together for an evening filled with joy, music, and festive activities. Under the leadership of Chairman Ms. Josephine Rhymes, the event proved to be a memorable start to the Christmas season.

Mayor Chuck Espy gave a warm welcome to attendees, setting a tone of unity and celebration. Pastor Givens followed with a heartfelt invocation, blessing the event and those in attendance. Chamber of Commerce CEO John Livingston and local icon Bubba O’Keefe each delivered remarks, expressing gratitude for the community’s resilience and festive spirit.

The Clarksdale High School Choir serenaded the crowd with classic Christmas carols, filling the air with melody and nostalgia. Adding to the holiday magic, the Clarksdale High Beta Club, under the direction of Raquel Wells, served as tour guides, enhancing the experience for guests.

Hot cocoa, sponsored by generous donors, warmed the hands and hearts of attendees as DJ Donny P kept the energy high with a lively soundtrack. Children enjoyed canoe rides and trolley rides that showcased the city’s sparkling holiday lights.

The highlight of the evening was the grand lighting of the Christmas tree, an awe-inspiring moment that united the community. The generosity of the event’s sponsors—Visit Clarksdale, Crossroads Economic Partnership, the Coahoma County Board of Supervisors, and Aaron Henry Health Services—made the celebration possible.

Raffles added excitement, with cash prizes, gift cards, and even a 65-inch TV awarded to lucky attendees. The Clarksdale Fire Department was on hand, ensuring safety and adding their holiday cheer to the evening.

Christmas at City Hall exemplified the magic of the season, reminding everyone that the heart of Clarksdale lies in its people and their shared traditions.
