CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Friendship African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, a steadfast pillar of faith and resilience in Clarksdale for over a century, hosted its annual Harvest Day Festival on Sunday. This cherished event brought together church members, local leaders, and community residents to reflect on the year’s blessings, challenges, and shared faith.

Founded over 100 years ago, Friendship AME Church has played a vital role in Clarksdale’s history, serving as a beacon of hope and advocacy. During the Civil Rights Movement, it provided a sanctuary for organizing efforts and amplifying the voices of those seeking equality. Today, it remains a source of spiritual guidance and community support.

This year’s festival centered on the theme, Maintaining Faith Through Adversity to Receive God’s Favor. The keynote address was delivered by Bishop Frank Curtis Cummings of the AME Church’s 8th Episcopal District. In a stirring message, Bishop Cummings emphasized perseverance and trust in divine timing. “Good faith in hard times is not just a belief; it’s an action,” he said. “When we remain steadfast, even when the road is rocky, God’s favor is inevitable.”

The festival also recognized the contributions of local elected officials and clergy within the 8th Episcopal District and Clarksdale. Among those honored were council members, state representatives, and AME clergy who have worked tirelessly to uplift the community through their faith and service.

Attendees participated in a variety of activities, including soul-stirring musical performances, heartfelt testimonials, and a fellowship dinner featuring southern culinary favorites. The day offered moments of gratitude and reflection as church members celebrated the community’s accomplishments and drew strength from their shared history and collective faith.

Pastor Pitts highlighted the church’s enduring legacy, saying, “The legacy of Friendship AME Church is a testament to what faith, hard work, and unity can achieve. It reminds us of our responsibility to continue building a brighter future for generations to come.”

As the festival concluded, the congregation left inspired, reminded that Friendship AME Church is more than a place of worship—it is a symbol of hope and the enduring power of community. For over a century, the church has stood at the heart of Clarksdale’s spiritual and social progress, continuing to shine as a beacon of faith in the modern era.
