On the evening of February 1, 2025, at approximately 6:58 p.m., a serious ground collision occurred at Chicago O’Hare International Airport involving an American Eagle aircraft and a tug vehicle. The incident resulted in critical injuries to the tug operator and prompted an immediate response from emergency personnel.

The aircraft involved was a Bombardier CRJ-200, operating as American Eagle Flight 6181. The flight had just arrived from Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport and was taxiing to its designated gate when its wing struck a tug vehicle crossing the taxiway. The impact caused the tug to overturn, trapping its 64-year-old driver beneath it. Emergency responders acted swiftly, extricating the driver and transporting him to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he was treated for head and lower body injuries. As of the latest reports, he has been stabilized.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the passengers or crew members aboard the aircraft. All passengers were safely deplaned and escorted to the terminal following the incident.

The Chicago Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched thorough investigations into the collision. United Airlines confirmed that the tug vehicle was operated by one of their employees and stated, “We are ensuring he receives any necessary support and care.” American Airlines also commented on the incident, emphasizing, “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and team members, and we are reviewing this incident.”

As investigations continue, authorities will assess the circumstances surrounding the collision, including potential procedural lapses or safety concerns, to determine preventive measures and ensure heightened safety protocols are in place moving forward.
