Clarksdale, MS — From Clarksdale High School to Coahoma Community College, Shacora Jurden is proving that greatness starts at home. The standout student-athlete has been making waves in both track and basketball, recently earning the prestigious title of All-American in track and field.

Shacora began her journey six years ago in middle school, believing she was just “fast”—but she quickly discovered her true gift was in jumping. That revelation launched a competitive drive that hasn’t slowed since.

“I thought I was fast, but it turns out I’m a jumper at heart,” she said.

After becoming a state champion, Shacora remained grounded. “It felt like a regular track meet to me. I didn’t feel any pressure. I just kept my confidence up, and I felt good about the outcome. Once it was over, it was just another meet,” she explained.

But competing on the national level and earning All-American status was a different experience.

“To be an All-American felt amazing,” she shared. “Being able to compete against some of the best around the world was eye-opening. I was definitely under pressure, but I gave it my all. I know I have work to do, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Even with major achievements under her belt, Shacora remains humble. “I feel everything in the moment… but afterward, it’s like I’m just back to regular me again,” she said. “Even though what I’ve been accomplishing is big, I’m still looking ahead and trying to be the best.”

Though she hasn’t chosen her next school, Shacora is keeping her options open and her gratitude high. “I don’t know what school I’m going to yet, but I’ll be grateful wherever I go. I just want the world to know that Clarksdale has great athletes, and I plan on continuing my career and putting on for the city.”

With talent, humility, and pride in her roots, Shacora Jurden is just getting started—and Clarksdale is cheering her on every step of the way.
