Clarksdale, MS – Clarksdale residents made their voices heard in a pivotal municipal general election on Tuesday, marking a significant moment in the city’s history with a strong voter turnout and several noteworthy outcomes.
Orlando W. Paden Elected Mayor At Large
In the hotly contested mayoral race, Orlando W. Paden emerged victorious with 1,566 votes, defeating Scotty A. Meredith, who garnered 1,149 votes. Milton Gardner received 12 votes. Paden’s win signifies continued public confidence in his leadership and vision for Clarksdale’s future.
City Commissioners Elected Across All Wards
In Ward 1, Ray Sykes secured the commissioner seat with 497 votes.
In Ward 2, Jimmy Harris claimed victory over Shannon Dixon with a commanding lead—704 votes to Dixon’s 193. The win reinforces Harris’s support within the community and his plans to address key issues in the ward.
Ward 3 saw Eddie Earl elected with 357 votes.
History Made in Ward 4
In a historic moment for Clarksdale, Linda C. Downing was elected Commissioner of Ward 4, earning 473 votes over challenger Darron “Gucci” Griffin, who received 129 votes. Downing’s win is particularly significant as she becomes the first woman elected to serve on the Clarksdale City Council, marking a new chapter in the city’s governance and representation.
