Clarksdale, MS – The City of Clarksdale recently celebrated a historic moment by renaming a portion of Issaquena Avenue to “Rick Ross Way,” honoring Grammy-nominated rapper, entrepreneur, and cultural icon Rick Ross for his global impact and unwavering dedication to his hometown.

During the heartfelt ceremony, Ross gave thanks to God, his mother Tommie Roberts, and his late grandmother—crediting them as the guiding forces behind his success. “Whenever I had an idea, my mom would always tell me to go for it,” Ross shared, reflecting on the early encouragement that shaped his journey.

Now an international figure whose career has taken him to Africa, Jamaica, Spain, France, and beyond, Ross reminded the crowd that Clarksdale is never far from his heart. “No matter where I go, I represent Clarksdale,” he said. He recalled a recent moment while watching the film Sinners, where seeing Clarksdale on the big screen made him pause and reflect: “Wow—this is really in Clarksdale, Mississippi.”

Ross also took time to inspire the next generation, delivering a message of hope and determination. “Go for it. Never give up. Choose the right people to be with,” he told local youth. “Surround yourself with positivity and stay focused on your goals.”

Tommie Roberts, Ross’s mother, expressed her gratitude to the community for their ongoing love and support. “Thank you for coming out and showing love,” she said warmly.

Mayor Chuck Espy, who also spoke at the event, praised Ross not only for his achievements but for staying connected to his roots. Ross acknowledged his interest in contributing more to the city’s growth, particularly through business development. “I’m open to bringing more business to Clarksdale,” he said. “It takes time—but I’m committed.”

“Clarksdale has always been my home,” Ross said in closing. “No matter where I go.”

The unveiling of Rick Ross Way is more than a street name—it’s a symbol of legacy, inspiration, and what’s possible when dreams are pursued and hometown roots are never forgotten.
