Clarksdale, Mississippi – Landen Maddox, son of Johnny Maddox of Tutwiler, MS, and a 9th grader at J.W. Stampley 9th Grade Academy, has been invited to serve as a Delegate to the Congress of Future Medical Leaders, which will be held June 24–26, 2026, just outside of Boston on the University of Massachusetts Lowell campus.

The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who aspire to become physicians or enter medical research fields. Its purpose is to honor, inspire, motivate, and guide the nation’s top students interested in these careers—encouraging them to stay true to their dreams and, after the event, providing them with a path, plan, and resources to help them reach their goals.

Landen’s nomination was signed by Dr. Mario Capecchi, winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine and the Science Director of the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. He was selected to represent Mississippi based on his academic achievement, leadership potential, and determination to serve humanity in the field of medicine.

During the three-day Congress, Landen will join students from across the country to hear Nobel Laureates and National Medal of Science recipients discuss groundbreaking medical research; receive advice from Ivy League and top medical school deans on what to expect in medical school; witness inspiring stories from patients who are living medical miracles; be encouraged by fellow teen medical science prodigies; and learn about cutting-edge advances and the future of medicine and medical technology.

This opportunity comes at a crucial time in America, when more doctors and medical scientists are needed—professionals who are prepared for a rapidly changing future. Focused, bright, and determined students like Landen Maddox are the future, and he deserves all the mentoring and guidance we can offer him.

The Academy provides free services and programs to students who want to become physicians or enter medical science. These include online social networks where future doctors and scientists can connect; opportunities to be guided and mentored by physicians and medical students; and communications for parents and students covering college acceptance, finances, skills acquisition, internships, career guidance, and more.

The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists was founded on the belief that identifying prospective medical talent at the earliest possible age is vital. The Academy aims to help these students gain the experience and skills necessary to reach the doorstep of this essential career. Based in Washington, D.C., with offices in Boston, MA, the Academy was chartered as a nonpartisan, taxpaying institution to address this need by identifying, encouraging, and mentoring students who wish to dedicate their lives to serving humanity as physicians and medical scientists.
