CLARKSDALE, MS, November 13, 2024 – The City of Clarksdale, MS designated November 19th, as Aurelia Jones-Taylor Day in 2022, for her years of continuous strong leadership of AEHCHSC, Inc., accounting for its growth from one small location to (12) twelve sites serving six counties.
It was June 2020 when the administrative offices of AEHCHSC, Inc. moved to a new building at 600 Ohio Avenue in Clarksdale, MS. This being one of (7) seven standing sites, (3) three school-based clinics and Medical Mobile Units created and developed by CEO Aurelia Jones-Taylor, is a story that continues to be told. After the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, this building was named Aurelia Jones-Taylor Administrative Complex, after the hardworking CEO.
Aurelia Jones-Taylor completed undergraduate studies in Mathematics, earning a BS degree from Tougaloo College, an MBA in Finance from Jackson State University and a Certificate in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University.
For the past 35 years, Aurelia Jones-Taylor has served as Chief Executive Officer of AEHCHSC, Inc., a rural Federally Qualified Health Center located in the Mississippi Delta. Her career spans several decades, gaining leadership experience in state government, public transportation, health care and community development.
An experienced grant writer, she has developed several innovative programs addressing Social Drivers of Health and health disparities impacting underserved populations regionally and statewide. Therefore, on this momentous occasion, a small acknowledgement of the day named for her will be no different; she will be writing grants.
She was recipient of the coveted John Gilbert Award presented by the National Association of Community Health Centers in 2003, Executive Director of the Year for Mississippi Primary Health Care Association, The Aaron Shirley Disguised Indigent Care Award and is a 2019 inductee into the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Hall of Fame Honoring Forerunners and Trailblazers and just recently was honored by United States House of Representatives Honorable Bennie G. Thompson in the 118th Congressional Record article, past president and present board member of Community Health Center Association of Mississippi, 2022 Inductee Tougaloo College Hall of Fame, 2022 Citizen of the Year Clarksdale, MS, 2023-24 Citizen of the Year, Iota Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Associate Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at Meharry Medical College.
Ms. Jones-Taylor serves on the Boards of Southern Bancorp Community Partners and Southern Bancorp, Inc., Board Chair for Clarksdale Collegiate Charter School, National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee and serves on several local, state and national boards and committees.
Aaron E. Henry Community Health Services Center recently received a $60K Asset Building grant from the Walton Family Foundation, $135K Outreach & Enrollment grant from Oak Hill Regional Development Pilot Project and $1M grant from USDA.
