Clarksdale, Mississippi – On July 11th, the Aaron E. Henry Community Health Services Center hosted an impactful event titled “Building Generational Health and Wealth: A Community Partnership.” The gathering was spearheaded by Aurelia Jones Taylor, CEO of the Aaron E. Henry Community Health Center, with the goal of uniting community members from the arts, education, nonprofit, and education sectors.

The event featured several notable guest speakers, including Dr. Brookshield Laurent, Executive Director of the Delta Population Health Institute. Dr. Laurent’s speech, themed “To find health is the object of the doctor; anyone can find disease,” emphasized the crucial role of physicians and leaders in supporting preventative health practices. She highlighted the importance of focusing on health assets within the community, such as improved nutrition, wealth building, and family planning, rather than merely screening for diseases.

Darrin Williams, CEO of Southern Bancorp, also addressed the audience, discussing practical strategies to narrow America’s wealth gap. He shared insights into how Southern Bancorp’s leadership integrates this goal into their business planning, offering a unique perspective on bridging economic disparities.

The event was not only informative but also engaging, providing valuable clarity on the objectives of community partners working towards a holistic impact in the Delta region.

The success of the event was made possible through the collaboration of Southern Bancorp, with lunch catered by Chef Robert Rhymes.
