Clarksdale, Mississippi – The Thanksgiving Holiday can be a rough time for people experiencing food insecurity. That’s why the Boys and Girls Club of Clarksdale is calling for the community’s support with their first annual drive to supply the Clarksdale Care Station with goods for the holiday season.

The Boys and Girls Club of Clarksdale’s canned food drive lasts through Wednesday, November 27 (the day before Thanksgiving). The organization is seeking both volunteers and donations for the drive, which helps to supply food to the Care Station located in downtown Clarksdale. The Care Station is a food distribution service that offers hungry individuals and households with quality food intended to meet nutritional needs that may be unmet by food insecurity. The Boys and Girls Club is committed to meeting Clarksdale’s various needs and are able to do this through partnerships with organizations like the Walton Family Foundation and Ceasar’s Palace, who is sponsoring the drive.

This inaugural drive is part of the Boys and Girls Club’s goal to aid their members and the wider Clarksdale Community during every holiday season. The local Caesar’s Palace, which partners with the Boys and Girls Club, has consistently supplied food boxes and other goods to help with these efforts. Caesar’s Palace will also supply the organization with additional volunteers to help with meal distribution.

Those who volunteer in the drive get the chance to do a great service to the underprivileged in their community. They aid in the sorting, packing, and delivery of canned goods and other nonperishables to the Care Station. The Boys and Girls Club of Clarksdale is still seeking volunteers, and prospective volunteers can apply by reaching out to the organization’s Unit Director at ahenderson@bgcmsdelta.org and submitting a background check.

During a food drive held last year, the Boys and Girl Club was able to deliver food to a single mother whose health issues made it difficult to feed her family. She was worried that she may not have been able to provide her kids with a proper Christmas meal. The organization’s support gave her the opportunity to enjoy the holiday season with her family, well-fed and stress-free.

Drives aren’t only held during Thanksgiving. The Boys and Girls Club is dedicated to giving back and has similar programming held during each holiday season. While these programs mainly focus on both their members and the greater community, the organization also holds back-to-school drives for members through a partnership with the Home Region of the Walton Family Foundation, which supports the Boys and Girls Club’s education initiatives.
