Clarksdale, Mississippi — As November comes to an end and the city prepares to welcome the holiday season, Clarksdale reflects on a month overflowing with celebration, service, and unity. From honoring veterans and recognizing local leadership to giving back during Thanksgiving and hosting nationally televised moments, November 2025 proved to be a memorable chapter in the community’s story.
One of the biggest highlights of the month came when Good Morning America broadcasted live from Clarksdale, bringing national attention to the Delta’s rich history, culture, and community spirit. Residents gathered with excitement as the town proudly showcased its music, people, and energy for millions to see. The visit became yet another reminder of Clarksdale’s enduring influence on American culture.
This month, the City of Clarksdale administered the official Oath of Office to two new leaders:
- Ms. Laketha Covington, City Clerk
- Mr. Vincent Ramirez, Chief of Police
The ceremony underscored Clarksdale’s commitment to strong leadership, accountability, and continued progress. Both officials were welcomed with warm applause and high expectations as they step into roles that shape the daily life and safety of the community.
Early in the month, Clarksdale honored its veterans through the Veterans Day Spectacular held on the Delta Blues Museum stage. The event featured performances, guest speakers, ROTC presentation, Clarksdale High School band and choir, and heartfelt tributes to the men and women who have served our nation.
Special Guest Speaker Jon Mark Herrington, Department Commander for The American Legion (2025–2026), delivered powerful remarks centered on service, sacrifice, and patriotism.
Local performers, elected officials including Mayor Orlando W. Paden, and community organizations contributed to a moving ceremony that drew crowds from across the city.
The celebration began with the Veterans Day Parade at 9:15 a.m., led by first responders, youth groups, and civic organizations.
As families prepared for Thanksgiving, the spirit of giving was evident across the city. Community groups, local organizations, and hometown heroes stepped up to make sure no family went without a warm meal or support.
NFL stars and Clarksdale natives Elgton Jenkins and JT Gray brought the community together once again for their annual Turkey Drive Giveaway. Held at the Clarksdale Central Fire Station, the event provided Thanksgiving turkeys to families across the Delta, sponsored by the Elgton Jenkins Impact Foundation. Smiles, gratitude, and fellowship filled the morning as volunteers and families gathered in giving spirit.
On November 20th, the community also celebrated Aurelia Jones-Taylor Day at the Clarksdale Civic Auditorium. The Fall Fest event included a turkey giveaway, vendors, financial experts, food, music, and kid-friendly fun. Residents honored Jones-Taylor for her leadership with Aaron E. Henry CHC and her commitment to strengthening health and wellness throughout the region.
To close out the month, Clarksdale kicked off the Christmas season with the annual Downtown Christmas Tree Lighting on November 20th. Families enjoyed pictures with Santa, hot cocoa, holiday music, and the magical moment when the tree illuminated Delta Avenue.
Also on November 20th, Higher Purpose Hub hosted “The Power of Music” with CEO and Sam Cooke’s granddaughter Nicole Cooke-Johnson and Executive Director Dr. Tim Lampkin. Held at Carnegie Public Library, the event highlighted the cultural and emotional influence of music while offering complimentary admission and books to attendees.
From national media attention and leadership milestones to community celebrations and heartfelt generosity, November reaffirmed what makes Clarksdale special: its people. As the city steps into December, the spirit of unity and gratitude continues to shine across the Mississippi Delta.
