Clarksdale, MS – Clarksdale Collegiate Middle School is celebrating an impressive achievement as its 7th and 8th-grade scholars excelled in the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) Middle School Math Tournament. The students showcased their mathematical prowess, bringing home top honors and advancing to higher levels of competition.
School-Level Champions
The competition started at the school level, where students battled through challenging math problems to earn the top spots. The winners were:
7th Grade:
1st Place – Josiah Lewis
2nd Place – Briylee Shields
3rd Place – Myleah Johnson
8th Grade:
1st Place – Delvin Miller
2nd Place – Derran-Michelle Fondren
3rd Place – Paelyn Simmons
The top two scholars from each grade level—Josiah Lewis, Briylee Shields, Delvin Miller, and Derran-Michelle Fondren—advanced to the Regional Competition at Coahoma Community College, where they continued to shine.
Outstanding Regional Achievements
At the regional level, Clarksdale Collegiate Middle students made their mark:
Josiah Lewis secured 1st place in the 7th-grade division.
Delvin Miller earned 2nd place in the 8th-grade division.
With their strong performances, Josiah and Delvin have qualified for the State Competition, where they will represent Clarksdale Collegiate Middle on April 12th at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in Columbus.
Community Support and Appreciation
This remarkable accomplishment would not have been possible without the support of the Mu Alpha Theta organization and the Math Department at Coahoma Community College, which hosted the regional competition. Their dedication to fostering mathematical excellence has provided students with an invaluable opportunity to grow and compete at a higher level.
