Clarksdale, Mississippi – Clarksdale welcomed the holiday season with its highly anticipated annual Christmas Parade, themed “An Old-Fashioned Christmas.” This year’s celebration featured over 70 entries, making it one of the most memorable parades in recent history. Residents lined the streets to witness a dazzling display of creativity, community spirit, and festive cheer.
Leading the procession as Grand Marshal was none other than John Ruskey, a beloved figure in Clarksdale. Known for his dedication to preserving the Mississippi Delta’s natural beauty, Ruskey brought a sense of tradition and pride to the event, embodying the essence of an old-fashioned holiday.
Music filled the air as the talented bands from Clarksdale High School (CHS), Coahoma County High School (CCHS), and Coahoma Community College (CCC) marched through the streets. Their synchronized performances and holiday tunes energized the crowd, showcasing the exceptional talent of Clarksdale’s youth.
The parade was a vibrant showcase of local organizations, schools, and businesses. Participants included:
- Moving Forward Daycare, whose float sparkled with children dressed as angels and elves.
- First National Bank, with a float depicting a cozy holiday scene that captured the warmth of the season.
- Clarksdale Public Utilities, spreading joy with a bright and eco-friendly display.
- Members of Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta, who brought energy and excitement with their lively performances and well-decorated floats.
Adding to the festive atmosphere were the kings and queens from CCHS, CHS, and CCC. Dressed in their finest attire, they waved to the crowd from elegant carriages, embodying holiday royalty and spreading good cheer to all.
This year’s parade highlighted Clarksdale’s commitment to community and tradition. With over 70 entries, the event brought together families, businesses, and organizations, reminding everyone of the importance of unity and celebration during the holiday season.
As the final float passed, spectators left with smiles on their faces and holiday joy in their hearts. Clarksdale’s Christmas Parade continues to be a cherished tradition, uniting the community and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
