Clarksdale, MS — Lee Academy junior running back Desi Monix has proven himself one of the most explosive players in high school football, surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season while leading the state — and the nation — in touchdowns. With 1,065 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns already under his belt, Monix has quickly become a name to watch.
Currently, Monix is ranked #5 in the nation in rushing yards, #2 in Mississippi in rushing yards, and sits firmly at #1 in the nation in touchdowns scored. He also holds the top spot in the state for touchdowns, as well as in MAIS 2A district play, making him a dominant force every time he touches the ball.
When asked how it feels to reach the 1,000-yard milestone again, Monix credited his teammates:
“Oh, it feels great when I have the best offensive line leading the way for me.”
Monix says leading the state in touchdowns is more than a personal achievement — it’s a blessing.
“I feel proud and honored. It means God has blessed and gifted me with strength and speed, one of the things I pray for each game as well as good sportsmanship, being safe, and that my teammates and I play to our full abilities. When all those fall into place, that’s when the credit is truly earned.”
The junior standout points to his family as his biggest source of inspiration:
“My family inspires me. They are my #1 supporters. When I’m having a bad day or bad game, they are the ones to help me see the good in situations — those important things I can’t see in myself at that moment.”
On the field, Monix plays with unshakable confidence.
“When I’m on the field, in my mind, no one can stop me when my Big Dawgs up front leave a gaping hole to execute a play.”
Looking beyond high school, Monix already has clear goals.
“Hey, I’m a football guy! My goals in life are to make it to the NFL and be one of the best running backs that ever lived, like Barry Sanders and Walter Payton. No one has managed to put up numbers like them.”
But before he gets there, Monix has unfinished business with Lee Academy. His focus is set on helping his team bring home a championship.
“My current team goals are to defeat North Delta and win the State Championship before I graduate high school.”
College dreams are also in sight. Growing up, Monix admired the Oregon Ducks and their speedy star De’Anthony Thomas, who wore the same #6 he once did. Now, he has interest in powerhouse programs like LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Georgia. Professionally, he says he would be blessed to play for any NFL team.
For now, the Clarksdale community continues to cheer on a young man making history on the field — one touchdown at a time.
