Clarksdale, Mississippi – Former Clarksdale High School and Mississippi State standout JT Gray continues to shine in the NFL, earning a spot on the AP Second-Team All-Pro as a special teamer for the third time in his career. Gray, who stands at 6’0” and 220 pounds, first made the list in 2019, again in 2024, and was named to the First-Team All-Pro in 2021.
Gray’s journey to becoming one of the league’s premier special teams players began in 2018 when he signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent. Since then, his hard work and relentless play have made him a cornerstone of the Saints’ special teams unit. His teammates have recognized his leadership, voting him special teams captain for four consecutive years.
This past season, Gray played in all 17 games, leading the NFL in special teams tackles with 26, including 16 solo stops—both league highs. Among his many highlights was a game-changing performance against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he blocked a punt, marking the second of his career. Over his career, Gray has played in 98 regular-season games, amassing 93 special teams tackles, a fumble recovery, and, on defense, 14 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and one forced fumble. For the last four seasons, he has consistently led the Saints in special teams tackles.
When asked about his success, Gray credits his relentless mindset. “Always being ready for an opportunity to go get it,” he said, “and being productive in your role.”
Gray has become a fan favorite in New Orleans, embracing the culture of the city and the team. “I never give up,” he added, a mantra that perfectly reflects his approach both on and off the field.
Gray’s impact extends beyond the gridiron. Along with his friend and former high school and college teammate Elgton Jenkins, he hosts annual football camps and turkey giveaways, giving back to the community that shaped him.
His parents, Solomon and Michelle Gray, remain his biggest supporters as he continues to excel as the Saints’ special teams ace. Even legendary coach Bill Belichick, a seven-time Super Bowl champion, has taken notice, once admitting that his game plan included double-teaming Gray on special teams.
As Gray’s career progresses, he remains a testament to perseverance, hard work, and the impact of embracing every opportunity.
