Clarksdale, Mississippi – Leah Turner, a 4th-grade student from Lyon Elementary School in the Coahoma County School District, has been named the winner of the prestigious 2024 Mid-South Fair SpokesKid competition. With her warm personality and dedication to her passion for news broadcasting, Leah has truly earned this remarkable recognition.

Leah’s journey into the world of media started early, with a charming twist. “When she was in 2nd grade, she found a filter on Snapchat with a news background, and she started making her own short news reports,” her mom, Latasha Turner, shared. “I stumbled upon the videos in my phone and started helping her perfect her craft right then.” From those playful beginnings, Leah’s interest in journalism grew into a serious pursuit.

Inspired by Fox 13 News reporters Brittani Dubose and Sheila O’Connor, Leah developed her love for reporting. Her admiration for these local news figures, alongside the encouragement she received from her supportive family, helped shape her passion. “Her parents, Christopher and Latasha Turner, her grandparents, Josephine, and her biggest inspirations, Jordan and Christen Turner, have all played a key role in motivating Leah to reach this milestone,” her family proudly shared. Not to be left out, O’Connor and Dubose remain some of her greatest professional influences.

In addition to her success in the SpokesKid competition, Leah is an accomplished student at Lyon Elementary. She has consistently made the Superintendent’s List and is active in extracurricular activities, serving as a cheerleader and holding the title of “Little Miss LES.” Outside of school, Leah attends Mary Bethel M.B. Church in Jonestown, MS, where she continues to be an example of leadership and dedication to her community.

Let’s congratulate Leah Turner on her outstanding achievements and support her as she continues to grow her passion for reporting! We’re sure this is only the beginning of a bright future for Clarksdale’s rising star.
