Coahoma Community College Celebrates 75 Years with Weeklong Tiger Homecoming Extravaganza

CLARKSDALE, MS – Coahoma Community College (CCC) is set to roar with pride as it marks a significant milestone with its upcoming homecoming celebration from October 14-19, 2024. The event, themed “A Tiger Homecoming,” commemorates 75 years of educational excellence at CCC and 100 years of greatness for Coahoma Agricultural High School (CAHS).

The week-long festivities will feature a diverse array of activities for students, alumni, and the community, showcasing the spirit and achievements of the CCC Tigers. The packed schedule includes:

Monday, October 14:

  • “Dawning of the Tigers” kick-off event (8-9 AM, Student Union Lobby)
  • All-day Sidewalk Art Competition (Back of McLaurin)
  • Gospel Fest (7 PM, Pinnacle)

Tuesday, October 15:

  • Homecoming Day Party (12-2 PM, Social Sciences Plaza)
  • Student Concert featuring Big Boogie (8 PM, Pinnacle)

Wednesday, October 16:

  • Golf Scholarship Tournament (9 AM, Tunica National)
  • “We Love CCC” Lit Chicken Wednesday (11:30 AM – 2 PM, Student Union)
  • Silent Headphone Party (7 PM, The Plaza)

Thursday, October 17:

  • Sidewalk Competition Judging
  • Faculty vs. Students Kickball Game (1 PM, Eddie C. Smith Complex Softball Field)
  • Annual Presidential Gala featuring Grammy-nominated artist Carl Thomas (7 PM, Pinnacle)

Friday, October 18:

  • National Alumni Association Meeting (3 PM, Georgia Lewis Theatre)
  • All Alumni Welcome Reception (4-6 PM, Student Union Lobby)
  • “Aggie” Alumni Patio Party (7 PM, Cutrer Mansion)

Saturday, October 19:

  • Homecoming Parade (10 AM, Downtown Clarksdale)
  • Homecoming Football Game: Coahoma Tigers vs. Northeast Tigers (3:30 PM, James E. Miller Stadium)
  • Blues Show & Tiger Taste Grill Competition (5 PM, Tailgating Area)

“This homecoming is not just a celebration of our past, but a testament to our enduring commitment to education and community,” said Dr. Valmadge T. Towner, President of Coahoma Community College. “For 75 years, CCC has been a beacon of opportunity in the Mississippi Delta. We’re excited to welcome back generations of Tigers to reminisce, reconnect, and look forward to an even brighter future.”

The homecoming festivities cater to all interests, from academic discussions to cultural performances. Special highlights include the announcement of the Homecoming King and Queen, custom T-shirt making, and food trucks at Tuesday’s Day Party. The student concert on Tuesday evening is free for CCC and Dual Enrollment students with a 2024-25 Student ID, with high school seniors admitted for $20.

Alumni are particularly encouraged to attend Friday’s events, where they can catch up with former classmates and enjoy light refreshments while reliving cherished memories on campus.

The week culminates in Saturday’s grand finale, featuring the homecoming parade through downtown Clarksdale, followed by the much-anticipated football game where the Coahoma Tigers will face off against the Northeast Tigers at James E. Miller Stadium.

“Our Tiger Homecoming is more than just a series of events; it’s a celebration of the Coahoma spirit that has thrived for three-quarters of a century,” added Karen Done, Director of Student Engagement. “We invite all members of the CCC family and the wider community to join us in this momentous occasion.”
