Clarksdale, Mississippi– Coahoma Community College is celebrating one of its strongest enrollment surges in recent history, welcoming 2,065 students for the Fall 2025 semester—a 21% increase over last year. Preliminary figures show an additional 354 students compared to Fall 2024’s total of 1,711, signaling renewed momentum for the institution and a powerful rebound from prior fluctuations.
This growth comes after a period of enrollment shifts. In Fall 2024, the college experienced a decline of 137 students compared to the previous year, while Fall 2023 posted only a modest gain. Against that backdrop, the latest surge reflects both the resilience of Coahoma’s community and the continued demand for affordable, high-quality education in the Mississippi Delta. Students are enrolled across a variety of learning formats, including full-term online and face-to-face courses, as well as the first 8-week term, offering flexibility to meet diverse student needs.
In its official Fall 2025 enrollment snapshot, the college reports 1,985 students registered for 23,690 credit hours, compared to a baseline of 2,065 students and 26,775 credit hours. Enrollment trends show we are moving closer to our goal, with student interest and engagement continuing to grow across both headcount and credit hours. While the numbers highlight important challenges in retention and course load, they also signal opportunities for Coahoma to strengthen recruitment pipelines, expand support services, and further invest in student success initiatives.
“We are enthusiastically optimistic about returning our student enrollment to 2000 students,” said President of Coahoma Community College, Dr. Valmadge T. Towner. “Reaching this milestone is a result of the hard work of our Recruitment/Retention team, faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students who believe that Coahoma Community College is on a deliberate mission of helping all students meet their educational and career goals. We are eager to build on this momentum in subsequent semesters by continuing to provide support to our students and aggressively seeking out ways to connect with future prospective students.”
Coahoma’s enrollment growth represents individual students striving to build new skills, pursue brighter futures, and contribute to stronger communities. Each student brings unique aspirations, and together they embody the college’s vision of access, opportunity, and excellence. Since its founding in 1949, Coahoma Community College has been a cornerstone of education in the region, preparing the Delta’s workforce and empowering generations of students to succeed in an ever-changing world.
