Clarksdale, MS – The stands at Coahoma County High School were packed Friday night as students, alumni, and community members came together to celebrate Homecoming. From the excitement of the big game to the crowning of the Homecoming Court, the evening showcased the school’s deep sense of pride and tradition.
The highlight of the night came at halftime when Kabria Moreland was crowned Miss Homecoming and Leon Fletcher was named Homecoming King. Their classmates erupted in cheers as Principal Shaw placed the crowns, a moment symbolizing not only recognition but also the values of leadership and school spirit.
“It feels amazing to be recognized by my peers,” Moreland said with a smile as she waved to the crowd. Fletcher added, “This is a special night. Being named King is an honor I’ll never forget.”
In a celebration that extended beyond the school walls, honors were also given to students representing surrounding towns. Titles for Mr. and Ms. Friars Point, Mr. and Ms. Lyon, and Mr. and Ms. Jonestown highlighted the strong community connections that Coahoma County High continues to nurture.
“These recognitions remind us that our school isn’t just about us—it’s about all of Coahoma County coming together,” one senior shared.
Rounding out the honors, Trejah Carpenter and Caleb Hearn were announced as Mr. and Ms. CCHS. Both students have been recognized for their academic achievements, leadership qualities, and involvement in extracurricular activities.
“It means so much to be chosen as Mr. CCHS,” Hearn said. “I hope I can represent our school well and continue to make everyone proud.”
The halftime ceremony was just part of an evening filled with energy. The marching band delivered crowd-stirring performances, cheerleaders led spirited chants, and the crowd filled Nosef Park with a sea of red and blue. Food vendors and alumni reunions added to the festive atmosphere.
Principal Shaw expressed his pride in the student body: “Homecoming is about more than crowns and titles—it’s about celebrating who we are as a school and as a community. Tonight was a perfect example of that.”
As the game continued under the Friday night lights, the new royalty took their seats of honor, smiling as classmates and supporters congratulated them. For many, this year’s Homecoming was more than a tradition—it was a memory that will live on long after the season ends.
