Clarksdale, Mississippi – Last week, Coahoma County High School (CCHS) hosted an inspiring Career Day event, bringing together a wide range of educational institutions, local businesses, public safety organizations, and service representatives. The event was a tremendous success, giving students a glimpse into the countless possibilities for their future careers and academic pursuits.
Students had the unique opportunity to interact with representatives from some of the top colleges and universities, including:
- Coahoma Community College
- Alcorn State University
- Delta State University
- Mississippi State University
- Ole Miss University
- Mississippi University for Women
- Jackson State University
- Christian Brothers University
Each institution shared valuable information about their academic programs, admission requirements, and campus life, helping students explore their potential academic pathways.
The CCHS Robotics Team and the Technology Student Association showcased their technical expertise and creative problem-solving skills. These organizations demonstrated the growing importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) careers, sparking interest among attendees. Additionally, MS Coding Academies introduced students to opportunities in programming and software development, emphasizing the demand for skilled tech professionals in today’s workforce.
Public safety organizations, including the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department, Clarksdale Police Department, and Clarksdale Fire Department, engaged students with displays of their work. These agencies provided insights into the roles they play in keeping the community safe, while inspiring students to consider careers in law enforcement, firefighting, and emergency services.
The Northwest Medical Center highlighted various roles in the healthcare industry, from nursing to administration, providing students with knowledge of the diverse career paths available in medicine and patient care.
Local businesses and financial institutions like Coahoma Electric, Planters Bank, and First National Bank discussed careers in finance, banking, and utility services. Their participation highlighted the value of contributing to local economic development while pursuing professional goals.
Representatives from the Army and Marines shared information about military careers, training, and educational benefits, giving students an alternative perspective on service and career advancement.
The Career Day event also welcomed representatives from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES), providing insights on job search strategies, workforce development, and resources for entering the job market.
