Colts fall to Winona Christian 61-45, season comes to an end

    Lee Academy fell right into a 13-point deficit within the opening minute of the second quarter, played from behind nearly all night, and it proved costly. The Colts basketball season got here to an end with a 61-45 loss to Winona Christian within the MAIS Class 4A North State tournament at Lee on Thursday night. Lee got here into the tournament because the No. 3 seed in Region 1-4A, while the Stars got here in because the No. 2 seed in Region 2-4A.

    The Colts took a 5-3 lead with 6:26 remaining in the primary quarter on a Montavian Artis field goal to open the sport and a William Walker free throw with 7:04 remaining within the opening quarter, a 2-pointer on the 6:26 mark. Winona Christian got here back with 15 unanswered points to take an 18-7 lead with 7:54 remaining in the primary half. The Stars led 16-5 at the top of the primary quarter. Lee trailed for the rest of the night, but did manage to place some runs together.

    The Colts scored 5 unanswered points to chop the Stars’ result in 38-20 with 1:13 remaining in the primary half. Bryan Ray connected on a 3-pointer to open the run, and Walker followed with a 2-pointer. Walker was fouled on his basket, but missed the free throw. Winona Christian was called for 13 fouls in the primary half, while Lee had just eight. Three Stars were called for 3 fouls in the primary half, while no Colts had greater than two fouls in the course of the first two quarters.

    Walker scored Lee’s first 4 points of the third quarter to chop Winona Christian’s result in 40-25. Winona Christian prolonged its result in 46-25 with 4:21 remaining within the third quarter, but Walker answered from the surface. He connected on 3-pointers with 4:08 and 31 seconds remaining within the third quarter. Winona Christian outscored Lee 13-12 in the course of the third quarter. Walker scored all 12 of Lee’s points in the course of the period.
