Clarksdale, MS — On October 22nd, the Crossroads Economic Partnership hosted its annual banquet at The Pinnacle, honoring outstanding individuals and organizations who continue to make a positive impact on Clarksdale and Coahoma County.

The highlight of the evening came as Dianne Mitchell was named C Spire Citizen of the Year, recognized for her tireless community service and leadership. After losing her sister to breast cancer, Mitchell helped organize Clarksdale’s Relay for Life and the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, becoming a beacon of hope and advocacy in the community.

“I want to thank the committee and all of Clarksdale,” Mitchell said with heartfelt emotion. “I’m proud to tell anybody I’m from Clarksdale — I’m from the Brickyard. I’ve worked for Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center for over five decades, and this city has always been home.”

SafTCart received the C Spire Business of the Year Award for its success and contributions to the local economy. The company, a major producer of truck beds, pallets, and acetylene tanks, continues to bring innovation and opportunity to the region.

Other honorees included Charles Cooper, recognized as City Employee of the Year, and the Coahoma County Circuit Clerk’s Office, named County Employee of the Year.

Jon Levingston, Executive Director of the Crossroads Economic Partnership, presented the awards and led the evening’s program. He also took a moment to honor the memory of two beloved community leaders who passed away earlier this year — the late Pete Johnson, former state auditor, and Coahoma County Chancery Clerk Ed Peacock.

Coahoma County Supervisor Jimmy Harris presented the award to the county employee honoree, offering words of appreciation for their dedication and service.

As part of the ceremony, Board President Meghan Denton symbolically passed the torch to Robert Carson, who will now serve as the new president of the Crossroads board.

Adding to the evening’s uplifting spirit, the Coahoma Community College Choir delivered a stirring performance, filling the room with harmony and pride.

In a major announcement, the Divine Will Foundation pledged a $1 million donation to Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center to support the construction of a new 600-bed hospital — a development expected to significantly strengthen healthcare access in the Delta.

The October 22nd banquet served not only as a celebration of progress and community spirit but also as a reminder of the power of collaboration and commitment in building a brighter future for Clarksdale and Coahoma County.
