Jackson, MS (March 17, 2024) – The Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health is bringing health directly to the barbershop with Blood Pressure Screening Day from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Precision Cuts Barbershop, located at 117 North Street, Cleveland, MS.
The event will provide attendees with free blood pressure checks, tobacco cessation information, and light refreshments. Additionally, the first five men to receive a blood pressure screening are eligible for a free haircut. Participants will also have access to health resources and the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions about Black men’s health in a trusted and familiar setting.
Barbershops have long served as safe spaces for men to connect, share experiences, and discuss important topics. The Choppin’ It Up initiative builds on this tradition by bringing essential health awareness directly into the community and encouraging men to prioritize their well-being in an accessible and comfortable environment.
The Institute for the Advancement of Minority Health is committed to making health care more accessible and fostering open conversations about men’s health. By offering free haircuts alongside health screenings, the Institute increases the number of men who receive the resources they need to lead healthier lives.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Warren Jones at wjones@advancingminorityhealth.org or 601-873-5477.
