Clarksdale, Mississippi — On the evening of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the Coahoma Community College Pinnacle was filled with joy and celebration as students in the college’s short-term programs received their certifications during a special graduation ceremony.

Graduates represented several high-demand healthcare fields, including emergency medical technician, phlebotomy, EKG, nursing assistant, and certified clinical medical assistant.

After the ceremony, Mr. Anthony Brooks, respiratory instructor and short-term program coordinator, reflected on the significance of the moment. “The Division of Health Sciences gives opportunities to students who might feel like they have limited options. There are many roadblocks they may face, but through this program, we build their confidence and give them the opportunities, resources, and knowledge necessary to excel in their careers. I’m extremely proud of this group,” he said.

Healthcare employment is expected to grow 18 percent from 2016 to 2026—adding about 2.4 million jobs, the most of any field—driven primarily by increasing demand from an aging population. With such strong national projections, programs like those at Coahoma Community College play a vital role in preparing the next generation of healthcare workers.

Dr. Chequita Dixon, dean of Health Sciences, detailed the life-changing value of these certifications for graduates. “A healthcare career allows graduates to improve their socioeconomic status while serving their communities. Coahoma is an excellent place to catapult a career in healthcare. Join us at Coahoma, where student success is our top priority!”

As these graduates step into the workforce, they not only uplift their own futures but also strengthen the Delta region’s ability to meet growing healthcare needs—proving that short-term training can make a long-term impact.
