“Jeremiah Brassell Secures First Victory as Coahoma County Head Coach in Season Opener”

Jeremiah Brassell earned his first victory as the Coahoma County High School head football coach in the season opener thanks to contributions from a variety of athletes on the field.

The Red Panthers (1-0) defeated Thomas E. Edwards Sr. High School 26-6 in Week 1.

After the second week, Coahoma County had split its first two games and was going to play at West Tallahatchie in Week 3.
Brassell was glad to get his first win as the Red Panthers head coach and reflected on it after the second week of the season. He said he takes each game one at a time.

“Every week is a new week,” he said. “Next week, West Tally is the best team in the state to us. That’s how we take it.”
Senior Jerasmus Eagins, who led the Red Panthers with six rushes for 66 yards, opened the scoring against Thomas E. Edwards Sr. High School with an 8-yard touchdown run with 5:14 remaining in the first half. He also ran in the 2-point conversion to give Coahoma County an 8-0 lead. Eagins also had one reception for 13 yards.

Sophomore Kendarious Sims intercepted a pass in the end zone with 41 seconds remaining in the first half for a touchdown. He also finished with three tackles to go with his interception.

The Red Panthers were able to build on their lead with two senior quarterbacks on the field.

Harlem Bell was 5 of 10 passing for 74 yards and one touchdown, while Devonta Boyd was 1 of 2 passing for 50 yards and one touchdown. Bell had eight rushing attempts for 46 yards while Boyd had eight runs for 42 yards. Boyd finished with three receptions for 27 yards.
Sophomore Zechariah Smith had six rushes for 35 yards, five tackles, one assisted tackle and two receptions for 10 yards.

Sophomore Caleb Hearn had two receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns, one sack, three solo tackles and two assisted tackles.
Junior Jalen Rodgers finished with three tackles and one assisted tackle while junior Carmello Fleming had two tackles and one fumble recovery.
