Clarksdale, Mississippi – Kelley Jones, a former standout at Clarksdale High School, has always been a force to be reckoned with on the football field and basketball court. At 6’4” and 195 pounds, Jones, now a redshirt freshman at State, is quickly making a name for himself as the starting defensive back for the Bulldogs. His path to collegiate stardom has been filled with accomplishments, determination, and a reputation for being a role model to younger athletes.
A 4-star recruit coming out of high school, Jones was one of the most highly sought-after athletes in the state of Mississippi. Every junior college team in the state pursued him, and several Division I schools, including Ole Miss and Arkansas State, were eager to secure his talents. His athletic prowess extended beyond football, as Jones was also a standout basketball player, leading his team to the state championship game in 2021, where they ultimately fell to Raymond High.
In football, Jones’ high school career was equally impressive. As the starting quarterback for Clarksdale High School (CHS), he led his team to the North Half Championship game in 2022 before falling short against Louisville High. His leadership on the field and his ability to excel in high-pressure situations earned him respect not only from his teammates but from coaches and opponents alike. Ranked as the No. 2 player in Mississippi and 114th in the nation, Jones was widely regarded as a top-tier talent.
After signing his letter of intent with State on December 21, 2022, Kelley officially committed on June 15, 2023. His decision marked a significant step in his journey to the next level of competition, where he has already begun to show why so many teams were eager to have him on their roster.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Kelley Jones is known for his character and leadership off the field. Respected by his peers and admired by younger students, he has become a role model for many in his community. Coaches, players, and fans alike have nothing but praise for him, noting his dedication, humility, and sportsmanship.
With his sights set on a promising college career, Kelley’s future looks bright. His hard work and determination have already paid off, and many believe it’s only a matter of time before the NFL takes notice. For now, Clarksdale will continue to cheer him on as he represents their city on a larger stage, hoping one day to see him drafted into professional football.
