Clarksdale, Mississippi – This week, we shine a light on Higher Purpose Co., a transformative organization rooted in Clarksdale, Mississippi, and dedicated to empowering Black-owned businesses across the state. Founded by Dr. Tim Lampkin, an experienced community developer and entrepreneur, Higher Purpose Co. is a 501(c)(3) economic justice non-profit with a mission to build financial, cultural, and political power within Mississippi’s Black communities. Through supporting business ownership, the organization is playing a pivotal role in reshaping the future for generations to come.
With over a decade of experience in community development, Dr. Lampkin has led Higher Purpose Co. with a focus on amplifying the ownership of Black wealth, and he continues to drive the organization’s bold vision for the future. At the core of Higher Purpose Co.’s work is its theory of change, which revolves around three interconnected pillars: asset building, narrative change, and advocacy. Together, these strategies are designed to create lasting community wealth while tackling the structural challenges of generational poverty, inequality, and institutionalized racism.
Higher Purpose Co.’s impact reaches far and wide, offering comprehensive business support and access to vital funding networks. The organization’s team is a diverse group of professionals, all committed to building a wealthier, more self-sustaining Black community. They focus on a broad range of sectors, including Food & Agriculture, Beauty, Housing, Education, Health, Transportation, and Art.
A major milestone for the organization is the development of the Higher Purpose HUB, a community wealth-building space designed to inspire and empower residents in the Mississippi Delta. The HUB is currently undergoing renovations but will soon serve as a center for collaboration, creativity, and learning for both children and adults. Once complete, it will host a series of events, programs, and meetings aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation in the region.
Higher Purpose Co. welcomes everyone interested in their mission to get involved. Whether you’re curious about membership, partnerships, or donations, the organization is eager to connect with anyone who shares their vision of economic justice. Their ongoing work is set to leave a lasting impact on Mississippi, ensuring that Black business owners are equipped with the tools they need to succeed.
