Clarksdale, Mississippi – For over two decades, Terrilyn Malone has been a prominent figure in the Clarksdale beauty industry, blending her expertise with unwavering faith and a commitment to empowering others. As the owner and operator of Terrilyn Beauty Salon Suite, Malone has built more than just a business—she’s created a space where femininity, faith, and community come together.

Terrilyn’s journey into the beauty industry, much like many others, began with a desire for supplemental income. Introduced to the world of beauty by her sister, licensed barber Tikilia Metcalf, Malone quickly found her calling. Her early years in the industry were marked by humble beginnings, offering $25 hairstyles in the kitchen. Yet, with perseverance and a deep belief in her work, she went on to become a licensed cosmetologist, co-own a salon, and ultimately, establish her own successful salon suite.

“I started as a young, overworked manager and mom,” says Malone. “I resonate a lot with the young girls looking for a way to help contribute financially to their family while also managing the demands of motherhood. I have five daughters, so whether I went into the industry or not, I would have had to develop these skills. The beauty industry really did make a way for my family.”

What began as a means to earn extra income soon evolved into a gateway for financial security and greater opportunities. Over the years, Malone has expanded her influence, taking on roles beyond the beauty industry. She served as a Girl Scout Troop leader for the city of Clarksdale, an assistant hair instructor at Coahoma Community College, a tax professional, and an insurance agent. Despite the challenges, her business continues to thrive, and her journey reflects the transformative power of faith and community.

Malone’s influence goes beyond just styling hair. She views her work as a way to uplift and restore her clients’ confidence. “I help restore confidence, I counsel through grief, and my customers invite me to their celebrations. I know my influence is deeper than just doing hair,” she shares. “I was blessed to create a community and a real legacy because of it.”

As a mentor, Malone has seen the impact of her work firsthand. “I love seeing young ladies I’ve mentored over the years being committed to the hair industry. It’s paying off even more for them,” she says. What started as a means to contribute financially has now become a vehicle for empowering others, especially young women, and demonstrating that the beauty industry is a powerful and sustainable career choice.

Terrilyn Malone is a pioneer in her own right, building a legacy rooted in faith, hard work, and a commitment to her community. Her story is an inspiration to all those who strive for success, especially those who balance motherhood, career, and community.
