But for owner Danta Owens, this milestone is more than a celebration of good food—it’s a testament to family, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to the community.
Reflecting on the journey, Danta shared, “It brings me joy and sadness. The two people who sacrificed a huge portion of their lives to make sure I succeeded are no longer working alongside me.” He dedicated this anniversary to his late mother and his brother, Pat, whose support played a critical role in his transition from the streets to business ownership. “I celebrate my Momma and my brother Pat. Y’all told me if I left the streets, you’d stand with me no matter how long it took to make Owens SoulFood a pillar in the city.” With their guidance and support, Danta kept his promise and “NEVER looked back.”
Owens Burger Shack has faced its share of challenges, and there have been moments when Danta felt like closing the doors. But he draws strength from the support of his family, employees, and loyal customers, who continue to motivate him. “I couldn’t have made it this far without you,” he says, thanking the Clarksdale community and surrounding areas for their patience and encouragement over the years.
