Clarksdale, MS – Clarksdale Mayor Chuck Espy has announced that he will reveal whether he will seek re-election on December 30 at noon. His decision hinges on information he is awaiting from the Mississippi Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).
Mayor Espy stated that if the forthcoming details confirm he can simultaneously receive his retirement benefits and serve as a full-time mayor without taking a salary, he will ask voters to re-elect him in 2025. This decision, according to Espy, would save taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“These savings could be directed toward hiring additional police officers or assisting our public works department with cleanup efforts,” Espy said.
Reflecting on his tenure, Mayor Espy highlighted the progress Clarksdale has experienced under his leadership. He expressed a strong desire to continue moving the city forward while contributing his salary back to the community, serving without pay.
“I would like to keep the progress moving forward,” Espy emphasized, “and continue to serve the people without pay.”
The community eagerly awaits Espy’s decision as the December 30 announcement approaches.
