Clarksdale, Mississippi – North Mississippi Storm Chasers, with the help of Uplink Internet, have launched a Skycam within the city limits of Clarksdale, located just a few miles from the historic Delta Blues Museum. It will provide 24-hour live stream video feeds, allowing NMSC, the National Weather Service, local media, and others to view storms in real time and determine if a warning needs to be issued.

This is one of almost 25 cameras NMSC has placed across Mississippi, with additional locations planned. While this camera feed is primarily intended for the National Weather Service, local media, and EMS officials. . It will be available to the public at no cost at www.nmscas.org/nmsc-skycam-network/ and via Hazcams at the following link: https://hazcams.com/station/clarksdale-ms-us-001. I’ve attached a still image from last night’s storms in the area.

Our cameras have already caught numerous tornadoes, fires, and dust storms across the state.

Mississippi’s Chief Meteorologist Matt Laubhan (Mississippi Live Weather)  has this to say about our cameras:

“As good as all of our other technology is, visual confirmation of severe weather remains the gold standard. The eyewitness reports that the North Mississippi Storm Chasers provide have been a critical part of our severe weather safety coverage for the last decade. These new weather cameras mark the beginning of a new era in our partnership, providing an up-to-the-second view of dangerous weather as it develops. I do not doubt that these cameras could save lives in the coming years.”

NMSC is a registered 501(c) (3) charitable nonprofit organization, and private donations and corporate sponsorships fund this ongoing project. About NMSC:
North Mississippi Storm Chasers was founded by Brett Wicker in 2003. He gradually started bringing in additional members as he found individuals who shared his passion for weather and severe storms and were committed to safely documenting and reporting on those storms. From those humble beginnings, the team has grown to over 30 members who live throughout the North Mississippi area today. We are all volunteers with varied backgrounds, but we all share a common interest and love of severe weather that the team was first founded on 23 years ago. We have taken that love to build NMSC into the leading storm-chasing team in Mississippi and arguably the Southeast United States, with almost 140,000 followers.
