Clarksdale, MS — On June 3, Democrat Orlando Paden was officially declared the next mayor of Clarksdale, following a decisive runoff victory. He will succeed sitting Mayor Chuck Espy, ushering in what many hope will be a transformative chapter for the Mississippi Delta city.

A native son of Clarksdale and the Delta, Orlando Paden is no stranger to public service—or to his community. The son of the beloved Red Paden, owner of the iconic Red’s Juke Joint on Sunflower Avenue, Orlando has long been deeply embedded in the fabric of Clarksdale life. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, and a servant of the Lord at his home church—New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ in Drew, Mississippi. Whether through sharing meals and music or shaping policy in Jackson as the District 26 Representative, he has spent decades serving the people of this town.

Paden’s victory comes at a time when Clarksdale’s leadership has been working for years to elevate the city’s culture, economy, and overall quality of life. Despite national economic challenges, the citizens of Clarksdale remain hopeful and continue striving for progress—and they see Paden as a leader who can turn that hope into action.

With a proven track record of public service, Paden’s rise has been fueled by trust, visibility, and hard work. His election is the result not only of strategy and experience but also of overwhelming grassroots support.

“It feels great. I’m compelled to do the best I can. Just as I’ve served as a state legislator, I will continue working with city officials and the community… The people want safe neighborhoods and to be tapped into the new economy as well. I see us on a rise—we all want to see the city come alive again.”

Paden’s campaign was powered by community momentum—neighbors encouraging neighbors, families organizing, and civic groups amplifying the message that real change begins at home. “Your partner in progress,” says Mayor-elect Orlando Paden. It’s this collective spirit that ultimately pushed him over the finish line.

“I want a new brand for Clarksdale, and I want all of us to play a role—young, old, white, Black, or otherwise. A lot of our missions coincide. We need to put our roadmap together and reevaluate the city plan. There’s something for all of us.”

As he takes office, Paden is expected to prioritize economic development, education, infrastructure, and community health—key issues in a city eager to move forward. He has pledged to be a mayor “for the people,” reflecting the trust placed in him by those who know his commitment best.
