(Clarksdale, Mississippi) Professor Jeremy Pittman will serve as a featured guest speaker at the Mississippi Citizens United for Prosperity (MCUP) 4th Quarter Mississippi Zero Lead and Healthy Housing Solutions Coalition Meeting, held in conjunction with the Mississippi Statewide Environmental Justice Summit at Tougaloo College from October 23–26, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi. This major statewide convening will bring together community leaders, educators, policymakers, advocates, and public health professionals committed to advancing equitable solutions in housing, environmental health, and community well-being across Mississippi.
Professor Pittman will lead Track 3 of the coalition meeting on Saturday, October 25, an interactive session titled “Advancing Equitable Public Health and Healthy Housing Policies through Intergenerational Leadership Development and Advocacy: Elevating Community Voices as Advocates.” This highly engaging session will emphasize the importance of intergenerational leadership development in shaping public policy that supports equitable health and housing outcomes. Participants will gain insights into collaborative leadership strategies, policy engagement frameworks, and community-based advocacy methods designed to amplify local voices and strengthen civic participation.
As an educator and leadership scholar, Professor Pittman has been a part of Coahoma Community College since 2005, where he serves as Director of the Honors College Program—founded in 2015—and as an Instructor of Business and Computer Information Systems. With a strong background in community empowerment and leadership development, he integrates civic engagement, ethical leadership, and social responsibility into his teaching. His approach is rooted in the subservient leadership model, a philosophy that emphasizes humility, service, and empowerment as the foundation of effective and inclusive leadership.
In previous roles, Professor Pittman has served as a leadership instructor for MCUP, where he worked closely with grassroots leaders to build the skills necessary to navigate public systems, advocate for policy reform, and promote community-driven change. His dedication to fostering intergenerational leadership has helped emerging leaders connect their personal experiences to broader social issues, empowering them to act as catalysts for sustainable progress in Mississippi’s communities.
The Mississippi Statewide Environmental Justice Summit and Zero Lead and Healthy Housing Solutions Coalition Meeting serve as a vital platform for dialogue and collaboration on pressing environmental and housing issues affecting Mississippi residents. Over the four-day event, attendees will engage in workshops, training sessions, and strategic discussions addressing environmental health disparities, lead contamination prevention, climate justice, and affordable housing development.
