From the family of Dr. Martin:  Updated Final Arrangements for Dr. McKinley C. Martin, Sr. 

Family and friends, 

Due to the treacherous road and weather conditions that we are experiencing from Memphis to the MS Delta and beyond, the Funeral Arrangements for our Father have been postponed until the following weekend. Please see the updated dates. Times and locations remain the same. 

Public Visitation is from 1:00PM – 3:00PM, Friday, January 26th, at Delta Burial, 615 S. State Street.  

Final Arrangements: The service will be Saturday, January 27th at The Pinnacle, Coahoma Community College, with Lie in State at 10:00AM and the Service at 12:00.

Dr. McKinley Charles Martin, Sr., 87, of Cordova, TN, died Wednesday, January 10th.  He was born on December 2, 1936, in Coahoma County to Oscar and Lugena Levi Stidham and adopted by Charlie and Lula Martin of Friars Point.  He graduated from Coahoma Agricultural High School in 1955 and Coahoma Junior College in 1960 and served active duty in the US Army from 1955-1958.  He received his B.S. from Jackson State University in 1962, M.S. from Delta State University in 1967, and Ph.D. Florida State University in 1972.  In 1962, he married Willie Burns.

In his 40+ year career, Dr. Martin’s most prominent position was as the third president of Coahoma Community College from 1980 – 1992.  He also held positions at LeMoyne-Owen College and Northside High School in Memphis.  Dr. Martin received the Tennessee Teacher of the Year Award his final year at Northside.

Dr. Martin is survived by his wife, Willie, children McKinley Jr., Myron (Sonja), Marcia, and 7 grandchildren.  

Public Visitation is from 1:00PM – 3:00PM, Friday, January 19th, at Delta Burial, 615 S. State Street.  The service will be Saturday, January 20th at The Pinnacle, Coahoma Community College, with Lie in State at 10:00AM and the Service at 12:00.

Final resting place for Dr. Martin will be at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis.
