Team Delta Dominates the Battle of Mississippi Championship

Clarksdale, Mississippi – The Battle of Mississippi, an annual showcase of the best young football talent across the state, took place this past weekend in Jackson, Mississippi. Teams representing various regions competed for top honors, and Team Delta’s 12-and-under squad emerged as the undisputed champions after an impressive four-game sweep.

Team Delta made a statement in their first two games, shutting out Northwest Mississippi twice. They opened with a commanding 32-0 win in Game 1, followed by another dominant 30-0 victory in Game 2. The intensity ramped up in Game 3 as Team Delta faced the Southwest Chiefs. In a closer contest, they secured a 12-6 win to advance to the championship.

The championship game against Metro Mississippi was a nail-biter. Despite rainy and cold conditions, Team Delta held their ground, clinching a hard-fought 13-8 victory to bring the championship trophy home to the Delta.

Two standout players received top honors for their exceptional efforts during the weekend.

  • Cameron Coley, from Jonestown, MS, and a student at Coahoma County Junior High, was named the Battle of Mississippi Offensive Lineman of the Year.
  • King Gamble, from Clarksdale, MS, and a student at Higgins Junior High, earned the title of Battle of Mississippi Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Both players showcased remarkable skill and determination, contributing significantly to Team Delta’s success.

In addition to Coley and Gamble, four other Clarksdale players helped solidify Team Delta’s dominance. Melvin Archer, Gerkevious O’Neal, Juicy Robinson, and Demarion Norsworthy all played pivotal roles, representing the Delta with pride and determination.

The weekend brought a mix of weather conditions for the players and fans. Saturday’s sunny skies set the stage for energetic games, while Sunday’s rain and cold weather tested the resilience of all involved. Despite the challenges, Team Delta showed grit and unity, proving they were the best team in the state.

The Battle of Mississippi brought together young athletes from across the state, showcasing the rich football talent the region has to offer. Team Delta’s victory is a testament to the dedication and skill of its players and coaches, as well as the support of communities throughout the Mississippi Delta.
