Clarksdale, Mississippi – Thomas Williams, known affectionately as ESPNTOM, is not your typical sports enthusiast. Despite his moniker suggesting a larger-than-life persona, Tom is, in his own words, just a low-key guy who loves sports and believes in the power of giving kids a platform to shine. With a background in both coaching and media, Tom brings a unique perspective to his role as a freelance journalist for the Clarksdale Advocate News.
A graduate of Coahoma Aggie, Tom’s journey into the world of sports began on the basketball court. As the assistant boys’ basketball coach, he played a pivotal role in leading his team to the state championship game in 2016. During this time, Tom developed a passion for not only the game itself but also for nurturing young talent and helping them realize their potential.
Currently serving as the sports media person at Coahoma County, Tom wears many hats. From being the go-to stat person for both boys’ and girls’ basketball to handling scouting and public relations, he is deeply involved in every aspect of the local sports scene. Despite his busy schedule, Tom remains humble, describing himself as “just a plain ole guy.”
Now, Tom adds another dimension to his already impressive repertoire by joining the Clarksdale Advocate News team as a freelance journalist.
