Clarksdale, Mississippi – Coahoma Community College’s annual Tiger Madness event was a roaring success, kicking off the college basketball season with excitement, community spirit, and thrilling performances. Fans of all ages filled the stands, eager to support their favorite players, cheer on student-athletes, and revel in the evening’s festivities.
The event began on a solemn note with a prayer led by student-athlete Cayla Meyers, grounding the audience in a sense of unity and purpose. Following this, the CCC Choir graced the gym with a powerful rendition of the National Anthem, setting a patriotic and energetic tone for the night.
Cheerleaders took center stage, delivering performances that hyped the crowd and set the stage for the much-anticipated introduction of the CCC men’s and women’s basketball teams by Thomas Williams. Williams’ charismatic presentation brought the teams to life, each athlete greeted with loud cheers and encouragement.
Tiger Madness featured an exciting lineup of contests and competitions that had fans on the edge of their seats. In a thrilling showdown, the CCC Men’s team clinched the 3-point contest victory over the women’s team, with Jaidyn Rankins leading the way for the men. Young fans were thrilled to join in a fun kids’ obstacle course, adding to the night’s family-friendly vibe.
The CCC Student Athlete Challenge pitted the baseball and football teams against each other in a spirited competition. The baseball team emerged victorious, proving their skills extend beyond the diamond. Fans also had a chance to shine in the free-throw contest, where Greg Neely Sr. and Shaquna Sledge came out on top, demonstrating their shooting prowess to roaring applause.
One of the night’s highlights was the electrifying dunk contest. Mario King’s impressive display of athleticism earned him the dunk title and sent the crowd into a frenzy. The evening wrapped up with the much-awaited Tiger Scrimmage, where the CCC Men’s team ultimately claimed victory, setting a high standard for the upcoming season.
This year’s teams feature some familiar faces from local high schools, bridging the community and college connection. Former Clarksdale High School players Greg Neely and Shacora Jurden now represent CCC, while former Coahoma County High School (CCHS) standout Jerasmus Eagins, a two-time state champion, adds talent and experience to the CCC men’s and women’s rosters.
Tiger Madness was a resounding success, uniting the community, celebrating athletic talent, and building anticipation for the season ahead. With support like this, the CCC Tigers are ready to make this season one for the books.
