Clarksdale High School opened the baseball season with a 12-1 win at home against Strayhorn on Monday night. Pitcher Londen Butler gave up one hit while recording 11 strikeouts for the Wildcats. Tre Washington was 2 for two with a double for Clarksdale, Kam Pittman was 2 for 4 with a double, Butler was 1 for two with a double, Markel Harper was 1 for 3 with a double, Terrell Johnson was 1 for 1, Brady Williams was 1 for 3, and Travarian Curtis was 1 for 4.
Clarksdale had nine hits as a team. “It was a really eventful night for us,” said Clarksdale coach Quavante McGregory. “I brought in my first win as a head coach, and I wouldn’t have it every other way. The defense was solid, and Londen was a dog on the mound. We also executed on the plate, as Tre Washington was dominant on the plate. All in all, we had a great night.” Clarksdale is back in motion at 6 p.m. Thursday at Strayhorn in a rematch.
