Clarksdale, MS – A new voice in the local art scene is beginning to emerge—bold, passionate, and full of promise. Her name is Amya Moore, and this year, she captured first place in one of the Juke Joint Festival art competition, marking the beginning of an artistic journey she once doubted was even possible.
For Amya, art wasn’t always about recognition. It was personal. It was a challenge. And at times, it was a battle within herself. “I wanted to compete with my sister, Alexis Moore,” Amya shares. “I always believed she had more talent than me. I just wanted to feel like I had something she couldn’t do—and that was art.”

“Now that I actually sit and watch my art be acknowledged, I’m proud to say—I did it,” she beams.
What makes her win even more remarkable is that Amya only started painting a week before the competition. “I’m not good with it yet,” she humbly says, “but hopefully I’ll get there soon.”
