Clarksdale, Mississippi – On September 24, 2024, Clarksdale, Mississippi, was awarded a $50,000 grant from T-Mobile to transform the corner of Ritchie Street into an outdoor plaza designed for young children and families. This initiative is part of a larger effort to promote healthier lifestyles and create more accessible recreational spaces for the community.

Once completed, the project will feature new bike racks, outdoor furniture and seating, life-size game boards, and vibrant plant life. The enhancements will adorn the area surrounding J’s Grocery and its plaza and rejuvenate the intersection of Ritchie and Espy Drive. These upgrades are expected to significantly improve the quality of life for Clarksdale residents, providing wholesome recreational options for both children and adults.

The project is a key component in the ongoing efforts to revitalize the historic brickyard, a move that is anticipated to spark similar restorative initiatives across the Mississippi Delta. The hope is that this will foster a healthier, more vibrant community.

This outdoor plaza is just one of several major investments spearheaded by the Rootswell brand in collaboration with local organizations. The initiative has been made possible through the support of Griot Arts, Clarksdale Municipal School District, Aaron E. Henry Community Health Services Center, Boys & Girls Club of Clarksdale, and Partnership for a Healthier America.

This project is a testament to the power of local and national collaboration, demonstrating how community-driven efforts can lead to the restoration of core values such as peace, health, family, and community in Clarksdale.
