Shemar Burks Honored as 2024 Firefighter of the Year

Clarksdale, MS – Shemar Burks, Assistant Fire Chief at the Coahoma County Fire Department, has been named the 2024 Firefighter of the Year, an honor presented by the Clarksdale Exchange Club. This prestigious recognition highlights Burks’ unwavering dedication, exceptional skills, and tireless commitment to serving the citizens of Coahoma County.

A proud first responder, Burks holds multiple certifications, including Emergency Medicine Responder (EMR), Hazardous Materials (Hazmat), and Driver Operator certifications. His advanced training, coupled with his leadership role as Assistant Fire Chief, reflects his steadfast dedication to public safety.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for allowing me to be a part of such a great brotherhood here at the Coahoma County Fire Department,” Burks said. “As a proud first responder, this award means the world to me. I pride myself on giving my absolute best to help serve and protect the citizens of Coahoma County.”

Burks considers this recognition a milestone in his career but remains focused on raising the bar even higher.
