Clarksdale Mississippi – As the 2024 election season approaches, voter education and participation are becoming more critical than ever. The Iota Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, also known as the Blues City Ques, has been at the forefront of these efforts in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Recently awarded Grad Chapter of the Year in the state, the Blues City Ques continue to demonstrate their dedication to civic engagement through their Voter Registration, Education, and Mobilization (VREM) program.
The VREM program, one of the fraternity’s mandated initiatives, seeks to uplift communities through the power of the vote. Gregory Hoskins, Chairman of the Iota Omicron Chapter’s VREM Committee, is committed to ensuring that all levels of the fraternity facilitate, participate in, or coordinate activities that encourage voter participation.
In recent months, the Iota Omicron Chapter has taken a hands-on approach to voter education by hosting “Let’s Talk Politics” at Clarksdale High School and Coahoma County High School. These events provided students with an engaging introduction to the workings of local, state, and national government. Using fun Q&A sessions and offering prizes, the fraternity made learning about politics interactive and accessible to young people. Most importantly, they registered many eligible students to vote, encouraging them to take part in shaping the future.
With the upcoming election being crucial, the Iota Omicron Chapter has planned to extend their voter education efforts beyond the classroom and into the community. Tonight, during the highly anticipated Big Cat Bowl, the Blues City Ques will host a special event aimed at educating the public on the significance of this election. As one of the largest gatherings in the area, the Big Cat Bowl provides an ideal platform for reaching a broad audience and emphasizing the importance of voting.
This initiative, like the many others organized by Omega Psi Phi’s VREM program, showcases the chapter’s ongoing commitment to empowering their community through informed voting. By engaging both students and the wider public, the Iota Omicron Chapter is playing a vital role in ensuring that every eligible voter in Clarksdale understands the power of their vote.
