Tyree Walker, 8, emerged as the leading rusher and tackler for the Coahoma Clarksdale Little Panthers 7U football team as they clinched their second consecutive North Mississippi Youth Football Association Super Bowl.
Walker, a starting running back and defensive end, managed to lead the team in his first season playing football.
“This is my first year playing football,” he said. “I love football. I just love the way my teammates are jumping around, smiling, and having a good time with the hard work. The hard work really paid off. The trophies are really good, too.”
Walker shared his thoughts on the feedback he has received from his coaches.
“I think they would say I’m a hard worker, a fast runner, a sure tackler, and a nice, respectable child to be around,” he said.
Walker’s goals are to always put God first and be the best player he can be.
“God is the head of all our life,” he said. “My mom, my dad, my grandparents, and family support me. By trusting my coaches and teammates with what I do, I can achieve my goals.”
